Rouse Hill Anglican College talk outline 1 (just added: outline 2)

I’m very much looking forward to speaking to the good folk from Rouse Hill Anglican College today and tomorrow. No doubt they are all super keen to be back from holidays and into a staff development conference, as all teachers are 😉 But I hope we can spend some useful time together, looking at a topic that I love.

Here is the link to the outline for the first 2 sessions (Wednesday):

The Beginning and End of Reading the Bible…

Barnett on Paul’s Corinthian Years

What was the time span of Paul’s ‘Corinthian’ years?

According to the surviving letters there were three visits, although the Acts mentions only two.  Interspersed between the three visits were four letters (assuming Second Corinthians was a single letter – about which I will say more shortly).

Visit 1 Acts 18:1-18

Letter 1 (‘previous’) 1 Cor. 5:9

Letter 2 (First Corinthians)

Visit 2 (‘painful’) 2 Cor. 2:1

Letter 3 (‘tearful’) 2 Cor. 2:3-4; 7:8, 12; 10:8-11

Letter 4 (Second Corinthians)

Visit 3 Acts 20:2-3

The following information from Acts helps us work out the sequence and chronology:

Acts                                                                                    AD

18:11                  1.5 plus years in Corinth                  50-52

19:10; 20:31    2-3    years in Ephesus                      53-55

20:2-3               3   months in Corinth (‘Greece’)      56/57

Aussies worry about work more than anything else:study

AUSTRALIANS spend more time worrying about work than war, the environment, politics or any other broader issue.

In the first major study of the everyday worries of Australians, researchers from Macquarie University found ”future career” concerns created the greatest anxiety for both men and women, while fear about ”the future” and ”achievements” also ranked in the top five.

A Process for Resolving Conflict

I had the privilege of attending a 5 day residential for the Arrow Leadership Programme last week. 5 days of highest quality input from people at the top of their game, and rubbingshoulders with leaders from lots of different churches and para- church organizations.

One of the session leaders was Tim Dyer from JohnMark Ministries, talking about conflict resolution. He made reference to this  excellent diagram and the process it represents.

Tim was full of practical wisdom and insight, and I highly commend his two free resource websites, The Leadership Exchange and The Mentor Exchange.
